Jewelry has captivated mankind since ages especially women. Jewelry has long been known to enhance a woman’s beauty. However not too many would be too intricate about the different kinds of jewelry worn except for those real stylists and people who remarkably elaborate fashion. Jewelries can come in different kinds – the fashion jewelry and the fine jewelry.

Fashion Jewelry is sometimes called costume jewelry, junk jewelry, or even fake jewelry. It is the first jewelry made mainly for adornment to set off a specific stylish garment or costume. It came as a cheap, throwaway accessory meant to be worn for a matching outfit. Its primary use is fashion. Compared to real (fine) jewelry, it is not regarded as a collectible, keepsake, or investment. Fashion jewelry is made out of less valuable materials including base metals, glass, plastic, and synthetic stones; in place of more valuable materials such as precious metals and gems.

Fashion jewelries can also be handmade. This kind of jewelries is widely used by teenagers or even by people at their 20s to 50s. The majority of the designs of these jewelries depend on the artistic side of the maker and the person wearing them. As these are fancy accessories, anyone can experiment on making these decorations at any occasion.

This costume or fashion jewelry was initially made of inexpensive simulated gemstones like rhinestones or Lucite set in pewter, silver, nickel or brass. Rhinestones were even down-graded by some manufacturers to meet the cost of production during the depression years. Contemporary costume jewelry has as a feature a wide range of materials such as high end crystals, cubic zirconia replicated diamonds, and some semi- precious stones are used to replace precious stones. Gold- or silver-plated brass and sometimes vermeil or sterling silver are the metals used for fashion jewelries. Inexpensive jewelry may still use gold plating over pewter, nickel or other metals. Some pieces integrate plastic, acrylic, leather, or wood.

Fine jewelry on the other hand is known as a kind of jewelry that is made with valuable metals like gold and makes use of precious and semi-precious stones, often featured or specially cut, like diamonds, rubies, and sapphires.  These gemstones qualify to be tagged as “fine” jewelries. People who wear fine jewelries are regarded by the society to be in a higher position. Unlike the fancy fashion jewelries, fine jewelries are so precious that they can be kept as investments due to their genuine value.
