An unconventional piece even when teamed with an ordinary dress can change the complete look. With gold prices reaching an all time high, trend is moving towards other alternatives. Though silver and pearl are still used but increasingly other items are used for women's jewelry. Use of unconventional items like beads, stones, printed or painted shells in jewelry can make a bold statement. In the recent years, jewelry trend has been favoring chunky pieces which are worn around the neck and wrists. So like in 2008, chunky beads, big tribal stones around the neck in vibrant colors, are still in fashion.

Wild and whacky jewelry pieces were seen on the ramp of Spring/summer 2009. The themes basically were ethnic and Asian inspired. The neckpieces to go for should be ethnic in looks; with more of an Indian influence. Big stones in rich colors were common across the collections. The pick of the stones could be turquoise, jasper and coral. Onyx is also very easily available and quite affordable. For 2009, everything bigger is better. So, bold and massive neckpieces are considered trendy. Big stone pendants with beads or chains reaching your bustline are in and so are layering necklaces. Multi chain necklaces with colorful beads of different sizes are also trendy and can go with any clothing. You can easily mix and match them.

You can even twist and wrap the long chains to add more depth. Necklaces made of large open links are also popular like last year. The more the layers, more the links, the better it is. You can even add your own links or clips to the necklace. The metal neckpieces in different shapes like rectangular, round, oval can be worn too.

Even for earrings, the chandelier earrings will still rule. Hoops, danglers are not going to go out of fashion so soon. Chunky wooden bangles on sleek wrists look good and can be paired with any type of clothing. You can go for bold, wide cuffs of metal, or prints if you do not like the too many bangles on the wrists. Stones and semi- precious stone bangles are the trend for the Asian markets.

While earlier, it was advisable to team the big massive jewelry piece with simple, subdued clothing in order to make the jewelry piece stand out; 2009 is more about being loud. So you can wear equally bold colors with over- the- top accessories. However, if you are the conventional dresser it is still better to go for only one big piece of jewelry teamed with either no other or slightly subtle pieces.

But for the daring types, 2009 is all about wearing big; as anything bigger is good. It seems, the minimalist look is not going to be back so soon!
