Most commonly seend citrine is heat treated amethyst or smoky quartz. Natural color citrine is rare and is usually pale yellow. Its name is derived from the French word for lemon - citron. It is also known as the lucky merchants stone and if placed in the cash drawer it will help the money flow by increasing sales. Citrine is often given as a symbol of hope, youth, health and fidelity.

Citrine is the birthstone for November and the traditional anniversary gemstone for the 13th year of marriage. Birthstone Properties: Increases creativity and feelings of joy. Alternative Birthstone: Yellow Topaz.

Citrine is believed to be especially powerful for stimulating one's mental capacities. It is said that wearing citrine will improve memory, make you feel more optimistic. The magnetic powers of citrine are believed to relieve depression, fear, and give you the confidence. Giving citrine as a gift symbolizes wishes for hope and strength. Citrine has a hardness of 7 moh, just as all Quartz. It is suitable for everyday wearing and are scratch resistant in most activities.

 

Historically, Citrine was also used in ancient times as an amulet to protect the bearer or the wearer from a snake’s venom and even evil thoughts. It is also one of two birthstones for the month of November.

A lot of citrine is sold as topaz by some nogood merchants. To the untrained eye, it is easy to mistake a topaz for a citrine. In general, all topazes with a prefix are considered heat-treated citrine such as Madeira topaz, gold topaz, Brazilian topaz, false topaz and citrine topaz. The only three exceptions to this rule are oriental topaz, precious topaz and imperial topaz, which are incidentally the most-sought after topaz varieties.

Citrine sells for around $2 - $60 per carat.
